A day in the life - Humane Officer, James Russell

In my 9 years of experience, I have learned that being an Animal Control Officer is extremely challenging but equally as rewarding. In this line of work, you will meet a wide variety of people and animals from all walks of life, so you have to be able to adapt to each situation and individual’s unique needs. It can be emotionally taxing at times so remembering your ”why” is highly important.

Being able to serve my community and the oftentimes overlooked animals is very fulfilling, and it is the reason I keep showing up every day. It’s also not just dogs and cats, despite what most people believe. We deal with cows, horses, racoons, and even a great horned owl every now and then. The job is never boring, and you’ll go to bed every night knowing you contributed to the wellbeing of your neighbor in some way.”
